Rest Day B – Oukaïmeden
Accommodation: Club Alpin Francais de Casablanca Chalet d’Oukaimeden
Shaun and Steve go for a hike up the nearby peak, Jbel Oukaïmeden, while I sleep for the morning – despite feeling better, yesterday had still been tough day when I wasn’t feeling great to start with. The tiny town of Oukaïmeden is very quiet, it being off-season after all. We meet up for lunch at the only café we can find that’s open and I eat an omelette, thinking it will be light on the stomach – so far so good. While the purpose-built ski resort itself is nothing to write home about, the setting amid the huge peaks is fabulous, and it feels very peaceful up here. As we walk back from the café the serenity is briefly interrupted by some very persistent hawkers on mopeds who appear from behind, at speed, and seemingly out of nowhere – no I do not want to buy a watch! I manage ‘Non merci, c’est trop poid sur vélo!’
